Get Your Boat Ready for the Season with Bialke Insurance

Ahoy, boating enthusiasts! As we eagerly anticipate the warmer months ahead, many have already started to think about putting their boats back in the water.

We want to help ensure you’re fully prepared for the upcoming boating season — before your boat hits the open water this Spring.

In a recent Instagram video, our very own Melinda Bialke shared some invaluable tips about putting that dock back in and getting watercraft ready for a summer of smooth sailing.

Let’s review a few of the key takeaways from Melinda’s video:

  1. Inspect the Dock: It’s important to inspect your dock for any signs of damage or wear and tear before the boating season is in full swing. Check for things like loose boards, rusted hardware, or any structural issues that may cause accidents to visitors. Taking the time to make sure your dock is in top condition will provide a safe and secure mooring for your boat and protect its passengers.
  2. Prepare the Boat:  Start by giving it a thorough cleaning, both inside and out, and remove any debris, dirt, or mildew that may have accumulated over the offseason. In Minnesota, it’s also important that you check for any signs of visible aquatic plants, zebra mussels, or other invasive species from watercraft, trailers, and water-related equipment you may have missed the last time you used the watercraft.  You also want to check all mechanical systems to make certain they’re in good working order. Check the engine, electrical components, lighting, and navigation equipment.
  3. Complete a Safety Equipment Check: Safety should always be a top priority when boating. Take the time to inspect your safety equipment, including life jackets, flares, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits. Make sure everything is up to date and in good condition. It’s also a good idea to review safety procedures with everyone who will be on board.
  4. Last – But Not Least, Review Insurance Coverage: Before you hit the water, it’s essential to review your boat insurance coverage to ensure your policies are up to date and provide adequate protection for your boat(s) and watercraft and passengers and limit any liability you may face while operating them.

SO! Before another exciting boating season Begins, remember preparation is the key to fun and safety for you and your family this year.
